Daylilies belong to the Lily family, but they are not true lilies.  The flower last for only one day, thus their scientific name Hemerocallis fulva L. Hemerocallis means 'beautiful for a day' in Latin.

Daylilies are extremely easy to grow, long-lived perennial which multiples freely.  They grow in nature higher then 1300m from sea lever.  The most Suitable temperature for the growth of Daylily is between 17C -22C.  Daylilies are almost indestructible and are perfect for the low maintenance garden.  They can growth naturally without pesticide and insecticide.  Insect and diseases are rarely problem.

Generally, Daylilies start blooming after six months.  Flower are produce in medium size with yellow and brilliant orange colors.  A mature plant can have as many as 50 to 60 individual flowers.

Daylily is an edible flower available April through June.

During the harvest season, the flower buds (the green buds, not the open flowers) are collected.  The best storage conditions for them are keep them dry at a low temperature.

The flower buds provides a wide spectrum of nutrients that our body needs for optimal health. Its contains 23.3% of water, 8.5% of protein, 59.5% of carbohydrate and 4.9% of fibre.  Its also contain vitamin and minerals that can supplement anyone's diet, such as calcium phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B1 and vitamin B2. 

Its organic form of iron are 20 and 10 times more than that found in fresh spinach and lettuce. The bud is rich in vitamin C  too!  it enhances qi to build vitality and increase resistance.
